Geelong Run Report
1st Sunday run 03/11/2014
A great turnout today after reminding all local members that we are back to 1st & 3rd Sunday runs and 3 guests invited along were a pleasure to have! John Palmer made the rather long ride from home at St Leonard’s to the start as well. A good effort!
A mix of old and newer bikes and as advertised, and a slower ride was planned to accommodate the older ones. (Although it must be said that Bill Marshall’s 1949 BSA B33 kept up a cracking pace for the 150Km run and ran beautifully)!
Ron led on a very pleasant route in perfect riding weather through Ceres, Gheringhap and then Bakers Bridge Rd to the Sutherlands Creek Maude Rd. After Maude we motored through the old gold mining town of Steiglitz and then carried on through the nice twisty bits to Meredith.
After a comfort stop at Meredith for the old bike(r ) s, Ron led us down some back roads he knows through Morrison’s where there seems to be 10 new wind turbines popping up every time we pass there – a whole forest by now! Then a lefty down the Morrison’s/Elaine Rd dodging the potholes until we reached The Farmgate Shop at Elaine which supplied us with good coffee and pies etc. and big benches to sit at. We will be back!
A great day and good fellowship with some members we haven’t seen for a while!
