CLUB’S CHRISTMAS BREAKUP at BROADFORD 2024

Dear Reader, it is with great pleasure as I sit down and pen these few words about the Christmas Breakup, which is held in early December each year.

Gavan Hall Broadford it would seem, has now after several successful years, become the preferred place to hold this event. Each year it seems, the numbers increase. ie: 58 participants this year; and for good reason. It is a great opportunity, usually in fine weather to ride or drive there and back. To meet up with old friends and enjoy a light lunch, all organized and put on free of charge by our Club.

What more could you want! What-a-bout an organized ride, I hear you say?

Yep, no problem; that’s been organized too. So 20+ bikes riders and pillions set off at 11.30 for a relaxed 70km run over the quieter sealed roads in the immediate area; and then back to the Hall for lunch by 1 pm.

Now having lived in the central Vic area for 12 years, and having encountered a kangaroo (in the car) just one week before, I have become wary of “problem areas” so a word of caution was included in the ride briefing. I am happy to report that no incidents of this nature were reported and everyone enjoyed the run; which included a brief stop off at “Mannu’s Leap” to regroup and admire the view.

I’m sure all the happy snaps included with this report will bear me out.

Just to digress a little here, local folklore has it that kangaroos, particularly the young ones, are more likely to run (or if you prefer — hop) towards you; whereas the wallabies will usually turn and run away.

So in conclusion, I’m sure I can speak for everyone attending in thanking everyone involved with the planning, organizing and execution of another successful Club Christmas breakup at Broadford.
