Christmas once again and plenty on, but some Geelong stalwarts couldn’t stay off their bikes for too long so a couple of rides before Christmas and after New Year were snuck in away from the families!
15th December the plan was to end up at my place in Torquay for Christmas (Aldi) party pies and nibbles and coffee. So I led a fairly short run from the Waurn Ponds start through Ceres and Gnarwarre. Right turn at the Princes Highway and then Buckley Rd South to eventually wind our way down Forest Rd to Anglesea. Plenty of traffic on the Great Ocean Rd so we slipped the back road past the Anglesea recycle centre and tip.(no bikes were tipped)! Then back on the GOR to Torquay via Bells Beach.
Good Xmas cheer and conversation was enjoyed for quite a long time on my deck and pergola.
5th January the temperature was forecast to hit 38*C so once again a shortish ride for the for the 5 players who turned up. Nice to have David McInnes come all the way from Queenscliffe just to say Happy New Year to the guys!
We rode through the Barrabool Hills once again, down Cochranes Road where we turned right on the old disused Princes Highway and skipped through the barriers erected at the end to join the new highway. From there a bit of a loop down Mt Duneed Rd, Anglesea Road, Grays and Forest roads back to the Moriac General Store – one of our favorite places for coffee.
A short ride of only 60 kms as the temperature was rising, but it was good sitting in the airconditioned store and chinwagging as usual.
Happy New Year!
