Run Report 7th June 2026
Geelong Run to Buningyong
Seven arrived at the Waurn Ponds start eager for a good ride in better weather as the last few weeks have been a bit inclement and indeed wrote off the planned ride to the Heritage Day at Toobooruc where it was planned to meet with the Melbourne riders.
Fred Vella offered to lead the ride on his 1982 Honda Goldwing and off we headed through Ceres and Merewarp Rd through Bannockburn to the Ballarat Rd and hence to the Geelong Maude Rd. Fred then led us through the old gold mining town of Steiglitz (which looked lovely in the morning sun) and from there to Meredith. A brief stretch of the Ballarat Rd and then a right turn towards Morrissons. At Morrissons we turned left onto the Morrisons Elaine road which was quite narrow and potholed. We crossed the Ballarat Rd again before turning left to head to Mt Mercer on the Elaine Mt Mercer Rd which was similarly challenging.
We eventually got the 1911 Leigh Grand Junction Bridge across the Yarrowee River where we stopped briefly as it is indeed a beautiful spot. After that we traversed about 1km of gravel road just to challenge everybody before meeting the good bitumen road at Mt Mercer heading towards Buningyong.
Good fellowship, pies and coffee were enjoyed sitting outside the Buningyong Bakery. A very pleasant ride of about 150km finished off by a straight run back to Geelong at speed along the Ballarat Road.
