Cruden Farm,Langwarrin
Having arranged to have a Classic Club display at this event some months before, I was always fearful that it would be held on one of Melbourne’s summer heatwaves but on the day we were favoured with a mild, mid-20’s, perfect day.
The group met at the BP service station on the Westernport Highway in Cranbourne and after coffee and the usual good-natured banter, 15 of us set off for the short ride to Cruden Farm. We arrived at the property at around 9:00 am and there were already a lot of display vehicles assembled and we had a bit of a slow ride up the driveway into our display position.
The location selected for our display was a courtyard setting, close to the old stables, on a firm gravel service, ideal to safely set up our bikes. While it seemed to be a little removed from the assembly of display cars, it turned out to be an excellent location with a lot of spectators coming through to and from the main carpark.
There was a lot of interest in the motorcycles from the patrons, with Ian Snadden’s Triumph Junior and Vince Roger’s Norvin being extremely popular. At various times throughout the day, a few other bikes joined our group to add to the range of bikes, including a nice Honda CBX 1000 and an Ariel Red Hunter. The feedback from attendee’s and AOMC officials regarding the Cub’s presence at the event was very positive and I feel we did a lot to gain further recognition of motorcycles within the AOMC. Those present were able to get around to see some wonderful vehicles on display, around 500 in total and to enjoy some relaxed company under the Club marquee. It wasn’t a particularly long day and most of us were headed for home by 2:00 pm.
I greatly appreciate the Classic Club agreeing to support this event and those members who agreed to display their motorcycles on the day.
