Beautiful day for a ride this Sunday and a good turnout of 7 riders at the Waurn Ponds start. Everyone was keen on a longer ride and we ended up doing a 220kms circuit by the end of the day.
I led from Waurn Ponds down the old Princes Highway, through the bollards marking the end of the road and then onto the new highway as far a Buckley Road South where turned left to join up to Cape Otway Road. We carried on – turning left at Winchelsea/Deans Marsh Rd and right at Deans Marsh itself to join up with the Apollo Bay Rd. Couple of the boys in blue on their BMW 1100’s going the other way to Deans Marsh surprised us on a bend, but us being well behaved as ever passed with a cheery wave!
Good fellowship at the Forest Brewery Café for at least an hour where conversation ranged from Nick possibly buying a box of disconnected 1968 Matchless parts which may or may not represent a complete bike to potential trips back to India to ride there again?
After coffee we took the Colac Rd and David, Bill and Rod peeled off to return home to Geelong when we crossed the Princes Highway. The rest of us carried on the back roads near Beeac and Eurong to finally meet the Hamilton Highway and into Inverleigh. Ron and I stayed for lunch whilst Mark and Nick who had eaten enough at Forest, went home. Altogether a great day’s ride in Spring weather!
